THE AQUAMARINE SWISS 40 STORY
Below is a short interview with the PANZERA team that designed the new Aquamarine Swiss 40 timepiece.
WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND TO THE NEW AQUAMARINE SWISS 40 AND WHAT INSPIRED ITS DESIGN AND POSITIONING IN THE RANGE?
Our original design premise was that we wanted to create a “little brother” for our flagship Aquamarine Swiss Chronograph. The Swiss Chronograph has a been runaway success since its launch and the only issue we faced was keeping our limited supply up to meet the overwhelming demand.
This was a really positive test for us demonstrating we have a large numbers of customers who want higher end Swiss mechanical watches.
So, we knew that if we produced a smaller three handed version of this Swiss Made model with similar styling and at an exceptional price point for our members, then it would also be a success.
Another important design factor of this watch is although it is a smaller 40mm size and styled to be worn as a luxury dress watch, it must still maintain a bold rugged look with 200M water resistance – to be considered a real member of the PANZERA Aquamarine family.
WHAT DOES THE AQUAMARINE SWISS 40 BRING THAT’S NEW TO PANZERA AND HOW IS IT IMPORTANT AS A NEW MODEL?
This model is a first for us in many ways!
It is our first new 3 handed Swiss Made model in our current watch range. It is positioned as a perfect offering for our members that want to have a high-quality Swiss Made automatic watch in their collection but don’t need the additional complications and cost associated with a chronograph movement.
Secondly it is PANZERA’s first 40mm size model. A lot of customers have been asking for this size and it also addresses the demand for a more compact men’s dress style watch. The slim and classical 40mm design is perfect to wear under the sleeve of a business shirt.
Thirdly it is the first time we have introduced a white dial model to our current ranges. We also wanted to make the white dial unique from the other models by embossing it with a curved wave pattern that represents the Aquamarine nautical heritage.
So, in summary, the Aquamarine Swiss 40 really does introduce a lot of new features and aspects to our brand and is potentially the most important model we have launched so far.
THERE IS A LOT OF TALK ABOUT THE LANDERON MOVEMENT USED IN THE SWISS 40. WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PANZERA AND LANDERON?
We were introduced to Landeron through one of our watchmakers in Switzerland, who had heard positive things in the industry about their new mechanical movements. When we reviewed the quality of their latest range of movements we were amazed at the precision, accuracy, and detail of their workmanship. In our view they outperformed most of the other high volume Swiss movements available today.
We also loved the Landeron brand heritage, being one of the most significant Swiss movement suppliers throughout the last century.
The combination of PANZERA being a relatively young and contemporary watch manufacturer, leveraging the pedigree and history of Landeron Swiss movements that goes back nearly two centuries, makes a perfect blend of contemporary and tradition that really represents where we want to be as a brand. We now anticipate a lot more of our new models in the future will be using Landeron movements.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE THE PANZERA CLUB MEMBERS TO KNOW ABOUT THE AQUAMARINE SWISS 40?
Customers should know that like the Swiss Chronograph these models are each individually hand assembled in Switzerland over several weeks and so they will not always be available for immediate delivery. We ask for your patience if you need to back order these models if we are not able to keep up with customer demand, as we have already found with the Swiss Chronograph.
That is why we set a limit in the first stage of our pre-order of only 300 pcs.
We want to let customers know early on that, unlike our locally produced models, we unfortunately cannot assemble as many of these as we would like.
At the rate we are selling initial pre-order models these may be sold out in just a few weeks. So, please get in early if you would like to own one of the first of these hand built classic timepieces.
